Death as the Teacher: Yoga and Renewal
Spring is the time of year for growth, regeneration, rebirth and renewal . Yet in the midst of a global pandemic, when death looms around us, how can we use this opportunity to evolve on the path? This class investigates the classic story from the Katha Upanisad where death is the teacher and instructs a most profound teaching on yoga. Read the short story that features a dialogue between death and a young boy and meet with Tias to investigate the yoga teachings on discrimination, the transitory nature of the senses, meditation on the heart, and connection to the timeless Self. Tias provides overview of the Upanisad and elucidates selected passages from the story. Then in a “roundtable” format, we discuss and share how each of us can actualize the yoga teachings at this time.
