Beyond Belief

It’s crazy how we all listen to the ramblings of our own mind, as if what our thoughts are telling us are real. Not that thoughts are bad, but consider how you and I each conjure our own reality.  Within the vast firmament of the Buddhaverse, it’s a shame that we only tune into our own very short and very limited version of the story. And everyone has a version!
All too often, people get stuck in the quagmire of concepts, beliefs, ideologies and protocols. Self-righteous and bigoted rogue types (usually male), project their militant dogma onto others. No wonder that our world is at war. Today, fundamentalism is a threat to all humanity.  Shakyamuni Buddha, when he saw through the construct of his own ego, exclaimed, “I have seen the builder of the house.” That reality is always “mind-made,” is repeated in the beautiful tale of Maya, the chief architect of the Gods. In the myth, he becomes so infatuated with his elaborate designs, that he can’t stop building. On some level, everyone conjures up their own private version of reality. You, your spouse, your kids, your mayor, your fellow school committee members, the Pope, the Ayatollah, each has a version. When opening the mind/heart in yoga, we transcend cultural and religious belief. We realize that everything and anything the mind produces is limited. To reach the unlimited, you have to see through the fabrications of mind. For beyond our differences, beyond the beliefs that define and divide us, is a vast and limitless space.
Beholding the space that transcends conditioning is magnificent, astonishing, and liberating. So don’t stick to your own small story. See through the veil of maya. It is truly beyond belief.
