Practicing Malasana—the Garland Pose—is a squat position that requires elasticity in the feet, ankles, knees and hips. This extremely valuable pose serves to unlock the joints of the legs and pelvis in order to free the spine. We begin opening the hip joints in a supine sequence prior to doing seated poses. Malasana as a gateway to practicing Bakasana, Bhujapidasana and Pasasana.
Have your props handy! We recommend a block, blanket, bolster, belt (and chair if you have access to one).
