Usually when people wake in the morning they start thinking about all the tasks that lie ahead of them that day. The more they think about all the things that need to be done, the more overwhelming it all feels. Only after they feel they have taken care of all the “important” things, do they turn to their heart/mind practice. But in the meantime, the trudge of existence weighs down heavy on their soul. Worn down and exhausted they have no energy to practice.
However, if you wake up and meet the day with a clear, simple “I must” and you get to your cushion or your mat and begin the day by connecting to the great inexhaustible source inside, the entire flow of the day passes effortlessly. When you start by clearing the decks in your heart, broad-minded, and with a spirit of generosity, the world appears less demanding. You have to decide what your real “work” is in this lifetime and how best to navigate the 10,000 things. When we tune into a subtle, ineffable source inside, it acts as a kind of GPS helping to move through the day without grasping at the world or rejecting it. When you begin your day with a feeling of raw joy, when you begin with a passion and enthusiasm for life, then you can welcome each thing and every circumstance. In this way, you can give to the world in a spirit of loving kindness without getting tired.
