Your cerebrospinal fluid is a plasma-like liquid that surrounds and bathes your brain and spinal cord (central nervous system). It acts as a shock absorber between your precious brain and your skull. It also assists your brain and spine by giving it nourishment, removing waste matter, and providing immunological protection. Most people have about 2/3 cup of this extremely important fluid. About half a liter of this fluid is produced in your body each day! As this fluid circulates, it helps transport hormones, neurotransmitters, and metabolic products.
Brain Fog, metal fatigue, headaches, dizziness, irritability, sleeplessness or drowsiness, pressure in your head, and pain in the scalp each may be a symptom of cerebrospinal fluid imbalance. Asana and pranayama, properly practiced, have been shown to reduce these symptoms and cultivate a clear mind and deep sleep.
In yoga, the cranio-sacral fluid is affected in every pose you do and in every breathing technique you engage in, influencing the mind-body connection and enhancing somatic awareness during the practice. Learn how the polarity between the second chakra in the sacrum and the sixth chakra in the skull is crucial to all spinal motion.
In this special immersion, you will understand and experience the structural, physiological, and energetic connections of the cranio-sacral system with somatic movement, asana, and pranayama. With such a practice you will feel more alert and focused in your brain and more refreshed all around.
