Many of the age old yogic practices are devoted to maintaining the health and vitality of the abdominal organs. One of the techniques to optimize visceral motion is called nauli. In this movement (kriya), the abdomen is “swooshed” side to side and up and down.
In SATYA, the unwinding movements, side body releases, and spinal undulations are ideal preparations for abdominal kriyas or “turnings”. Working like an abdominal massage, nauli stimulates assimilation and facilitates absorption in the digestive system. In this training, we practice churning, massaging, and stretching movements for the abdomen in order to increase digestive fire and boost overall levels of energy in the body.
