To be in the Flow of the Now requires two things. First, you have to be right in each split-second. Because each second is changing, you have to meet the moment with all your heart and mind. When you engage in each moment, you have to be there 100%. When you sweep the path or weed the garden, be there 100%. When you meet an old friend or a new acquaintance be present 100%. But after each encounter, you have to let go. In the movement-meditation piece we call Zen Motion, we call this practice “make it and break it”.
Now the second part of being in the Flow of the Now is to remember that there is no end to the Now. There is no end, no beginning and no middle. While the now changes constantly, it is also perpetual and unending. The Now is not just the present moment but like space, extends infinitely in all directions. In the practice of being in the Flow of the Now, you have to have two eyes to see the changing world of duality while at the same time have a third eye that sees the one constant behind everything. If you forget to keep your third eye open, then you get blinded by the busyness of the world. So each day, be in the spilt-second now and the eternal now at the same time. This takes a little getting used to and is best practiced in times when you can be still, reflective and calm. In this way, you can learn how to hold space for the instant and the forever and remain always in the Flow of the Now.
