In the run up to election day, it has been difficult to avoid getting caught in the crossfire of the coast to coast campaigning. We have been marched through the landscape of projection—outcome projections in the battleground states and projected rhetoric loaded with inciteful speech and exaggerated claims. Have you not been feeling overwhelmed by pangs of despair and sleeplessness? Have you been suffering from bad digestion? Woozy with worry, we have all experienced the dukha of a mind—and a country—divided. The ancients knew that the one way through this minefield of despair is to yoke to Big Mind and Open Heart—to believe in that which does not take sides, has no agenda, and never changes its position.
While political parties and heads of state parade by year after year, yoga aligns to that which never comes and goes. While we cast our vote in the political arena on Tuesday, we must also “vote” inwardly for the indivisible. The word vote stems from the Latin vovere meaning to vow. With a quiet heart and clear mind, vow allegiance to the unchanging source that transcends party lines and political divides. Yoke to that which has no minority or majority, which never gains or loses power, can never be lobbied for or against, and can never be drawn into litigation. Elect to have an open heart and mind by casting your vote for that which is outside political will and strategy. Align with the formless, all-pervading source with humility, tolerance, insight and love.
So on Tuesday when you cast your vote at the polls, elect to stand firm on the ground of spaciousness and inner peace, ready to attend to whatever may arise.
