Yoga of the Nerves | October 6-Class Online Series

October 4 - October 29

REGISTER HERE

In this month we practice yoga and somatic movements to benefit the longest and most prominent nerves of the body. Each class is devoted to one primary nerve tract. To start each class, Tias will map the anatomical pathway of each nerve, then we pump, stretch and release the musculature surrounding the nerve using somatic movements and asana.

NEW! In order to learn more about the practice and study, we are opening the opportunity for you to ask a question or post a comment for Tias and Surya about the practice of this month during the duration of the October Series.

Friday, October 4 | Sciatic Nerve I: The Feet and Knees

The sciatic nerve is the longest in the body traveling from the low back, through your sacrum, buttock, and hamstring down to your toes. In this class we mobilize the lower sciatic nerve (the tibial nerve) as it tunnels through the knee, calf, ankle, and foot.

Tuesday, October 8 | Sciatic Nerve II: The Hips

The upper sciatic nerve is typically the culprit for radiating pain in the hip, buttock, low back and upper leg. In this class we loosen the muscles that surround the sciatic nerve in order to release the structures of the hip, hamstring, and buttock.

Tuesday, October 15 | Brachial Plexus: The Shoulders

The brachial plexus includes a highway of nerves passing under the bridge of the collar bones. The Radial nerve is the largest that passes down into the arm. In this class we increase ROM in the arms while stretching and loosening the shoulders.

Friday, October 18 | Trigeminal Nerve: The Face

The Trigeminal is by far the dominant nerve of the face. Its 3 large branches govern movement of the eyes, jaw, tongue and face. In this class we mobilize and the muscles of the face, repatterining the sensory connection to the eyes, nose, and tongue.

Tuesday, October 22 | Vagus Nerve: The Organs

The vagus nerve is the longest of all 16 cranial nerves. It “wanders” through the core of the body innervating the heart, lung, kidney, and intestine. In this class we do vagal nerve stimulation exercises (stretching fascia, humming, breath retention) proven to reduce depression, anxiety, and paralysis.

Tuesday, October 29 | Spinal Cord: The Spine

The goal of all hatha yoga is to open the central channel of the body known as the Channel of Light. In this class we do movements to benefit the spine, spinal cord and brainstem in order to create a free flow of energy through the body.
