Balancing Your Ayurvedic Constitution: December Online 6-Class Series

In Ayurveda and Yoga, the body and mind is comprised of the three qualities: Kapha (earth, water), Pitta (fire), and Vata (air). In this month we harmonize and clarify the energy of these three through meditation, SATYA, and yoga.

 


Tuesday, December 10 | Balancing Kapha

Kapha resides in the fluids of the body and signifies weight and stability. In this class we reduce sluggishness and lethargy in the body by lubricating all tissues while suffusing the body in feelings of serenity and delight.

 

Friday, December 13 | Clarifying Kapha

When kapha is refined it becomes ojas which is the vitality of the immune system and the essential energy of the reproductive fluids. In this class we lubricate the tissues of the body – particularly in the joints, lungs, and brain. When we refine kapha dosha, we embody a loving, heart-centered presence.

 

Tuesday, December 17 | Balancing Pitta

Pitta is the energy of fire and transformation, centered in the digestive system. In this class we mobilize the solar plexus while steadying the flow of “fire” through the nerve endings, fascia, and organs of perception.

 

Friday, December 20 | Clarifying Pitta

When pitta is too sharp and fiery it burns the body’s essential vitality. When the fire element is refined, it results in good focus, radiance (tejas), steady levels of energy, and clear understanding. In this class we practice to clarify the fire element. We practice “right fire” which is the clear path of neuromuscular flow in both movement and meditation.

 

Friday, December 27 | Balancing Vata

Centered in the lower abdomen, vata governs the path of “wind” through all the channels of the body. It is characterized by movement and activity. In this class, we reduce bluster and agitation in the nerves while opening the hip joints and toning the lower abdomen.

 

Tuesday, December 31 | Clarifying Vata

When vata is channeled it leads to clear perception, refined awareness, and the subtle flow of prana. As we age, the vata becomes more pronounced resulting in sleeplessness, weight loss, and memory loss. In this class we bring steadiness and ease to the nerves and also practice “motionless vata” which is the experience of pure consciousness.

  • Have your props handy! We recommend two blocks, blankets, a thick bolster, an 8’ or 10’ belt/strap, and a backless chair (modifications will be given if you do not have a chair). We recommend yogaoutlet.com and Manduka for props; backless chairs can be found on Amazon and Etsy.
